Baseball practice has been held regularly every morning and afternoon this week. The morning work and one afternoon was devoted to giving the University and second squads batting practice under Chesbro and Keeler. This practice has consisted of bunting and batting curves, special attention being given to waiting out the ball and learning to meet the ball squarely. The afternoon work has been devoted to fielding ground balls, and practice in double plays, sliding, and running bases. This work has been mainly under the direction of Coach Frantz and Clarkson. The battery squads have practiced every afternoon, the pitchers giving particular attention to control, and in the latter part of the time, to curves. Improvement has been steady and satisfactory, the work of the first squad being especially good, with the exception of a few men who have been irregular in attendance on account of illness. The second squad was disbanded yesterday to be called out again after the spring recess.

The University squad, which has been increased to about thirty men, will practice next week only in the afternoon. The battery squads will practice from 1.30 to 2.45 o'clock, the University squad from 2.45 to 4 o'clock, giving the first half of the time to battery and the second to regular fielding practice; the Freshmen at 4.15 o'clock. There will be a cut in the battery squad next week.

The work of the Freshmen has been similar to that of the University squad. Batting and fielding practice has been given every afternoon under Chesbro and Keeler. Coach Daly directed the work three afternoons and will be out again today. He has been assisted by L. Pieper 1L. The work is progressing fairly well, although there is a lack of good material and the squad is smaller than usual. A cut will probably be made this afternoon.

Keeler left last night to join the New York American League team which goes South on Monday. Chesbro will remain till March 26.

There will be no regular University practice this afternoon.
