NEW GATE AND FENCE

Presented by Classes of 1887 and 1888.--To be Finished in a Month.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The above cut of the gate and fence presented to the University by the classes of 1887 and 1888 was made from a wash print from the office of McKim, Mead and White of New York, the designing architects.

Work on the section of the Yard fence and gateway begun in the early part of September, has been delayed for a week by the need of special brick to be used in the cornice. The gateway will cost about $15,000, and, it is hoped, will be finished by the end of November. The mason-work of the fence, which extends from the Fogg Museum along Broadway to Robinson Hall, is now finished, but the iron-work will not be put in until the masonry of the gateway is built. Between the openings a drinking fountain in the form of a lion's head over a stone basin will be built. With the exception of this fountain, there will be no carving or elaborate decoration.
