The Freshman baseball team will play the first game of their schedule, against the Noble and Greenough School team, this afternoon at 4 o'clock on the Freshman diamond, Soldiers Field.
At the conclusion of practice yesterday afternoon, a cut was made in the squad. The following men were retained and are expected to report dressed to play this afternoon at 3 o'clock: R. E. Apthorp, L. W. Barta, R. S. Bennett, K. G. Carpenter, R. G. Carpenter, L. Fischel, W. F. Kurtz, H. F. McNeil, L. W. Pritchett, D. O. Slater, T. L. Smith, D. P. Starr, G. Ware, H. Green, H. E. Johnson, F. R. Thomas, G. F. Waters, E. M. Pickman, J. R. Beaton, J. W. Wendell, C. Lincoln, W. G. Cerlisle, J. D. Pounds, H. Inches, R. S. Lovering, and B. T. Stephenson.
Fischel has been appointed temporary captain of the team.
The work of the Freshman team has been improving lately, especially in the batting department. The outfielders handle the ball well, but are still weak in throwing. The infielders have good team work, but all the pitchers on the squad lack control.
The Noble's team has only won one of the four games already played this season. Although weak at the bat and in the box, the team has fielded with considerable accuracy.
