Crew Work During Past Week

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The two University crews have been on the river daily during the past week under the direction of Coach Wray. Owing to the mild weather the amount of work has been increased and there has been a general improvement. Up to this time the second crew, composed of last year's Freshman eight, has shown the better form. The men are swinging fairly well together but are not getting enough power from their leg drive. Farley's boat has a tendency to clip the stroke at the finish and several of the men are not catching the water quick enough. Yesterday, the two crews rowed upstream almost to the Brighton bridge and back to the University Boat House in easy stretches. Toward the latter part of next week, there will be a race between the two crews over the course in the basin.

Great Improvement by Dormitory Crews.

The practice of the dormitory crews during the past week has been very satisfactory. Great improvement has been made in blade work and the men are slowly overcoming the tendency to rush their slides. Second crews have been formed by the dormitories, in which enough men could be found, and these will be kept up as long as the interest lasts. Thirteen crews have been rowing from the Newell Boat Club and twelve from the Weld. At present the Randolph and Westmorly first crews are showing the best form. In a race between these crews yesterday over the regular course, the Randolph crew gained half a length on the Westmorly boat. The bumping races will be held in the near future, so that the crews may have the advantage of the mild weather. No definite plans have been made, but the races will be conducted in much the same manner as last year.
