The University basketball team defeated Brown by the score of 23 to 17 in a fast game played in the Gymnasium Saturday evening. The University team showed good team work and its defence was excellent; but the shooting was a little weak, several good chances to score being lost. Brown's team work was slow, and too many long shots were attempted.

The University team started the game with fast, hard playing, Newton making two goals in the first five minutes of play, quickly followed by one by Allen. Brown then rallied and McKay scored a goal. The University team kept the lead, however, not only through the rest of the half, but also during the entire game. The playing throughout the half was fast and the score at the end was Harvard, 14; Brown, 7.

In the second half Brown started with a rush, scoring three goals in rapid succession. The University team soon got together and Newton again scored two goals, one immediately after the other. Harvard's playing continued fast, but Brown was forced to let up for a time as the pace was too strenuous. The final score was 23 to 17.

Newton's brilliant playing was easily the best shown in the game; he broke up many of Brown's plays and threw several very good goals. Allen and Currie also did good work for the University. For Brown, Hill and McKay played the best games.

The summary follows:
