Substitutes Defeated Second Team

The University team's practice yesterday afternoon consisted of a scrimmage with the second team. All of the men who played in the West Point game, with the exception of Campbell and Graustein, were excused from the work. Both teams found difficulty in gaining through the other's line, which made much punting necessary. The first score was made by Wendell, after the substitutes had rushed the ball from midfield. T. H. Frothingham and Graustein both made long gains in this series of plays. After the kick-off, Graustein made a short punt from the 50-yard line, but the ball was fumbled and long recovered it behind the line for a touchdown.

The second team braced for a short time, but its line was weak, and the substitutes' backs made long gains, advancing the ball after the kick-off to the seconds' 40-yard line. A forward pass and four more line plays put the ball on the 3-yard line, whence Wendell scored again.

T. H. Frothingham was in the scrimmage for the first time in two weeks, having recovered almost entirely from the injury to his knee. H. C. Leslie was on the field, but did not take part in the scrimmage. T. Frothingham spent some time in drop-kicking, and should show much improvement in this department in the next game.

The teams lined up as follows: SUBSTITUTES.  SECOND TEAM.
