DRAFTING ROOMS IN PIERCE HALL.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In spite of the fact that the enrollment in the drafting courses conducted by the Engineering Department is much larger than in the similar architectural courses, an entirely different policy is employed in regard to the respective drafting rooms of the two departments. Although those in Robinson remain open during the evening, the drafting rooms in Pierce Hall close at 5 o'clock in the afternoon, except on Saturday, when the building is closed one hour earlier.

A great many men in the engineering courses are unable to complete their drafting in the allotted time and, consequently, are obliged to spend extra time to keep up with their courses. It seems hardly reasonable to suppose that the men are not desirous of more working hours in the Pierce drafting rooms. Any afternoon a number will be found drawing up to the last minute before the building is closed and it is a very common sight to see men leave the Hall with drawing boards under their arms.

The suggestion that the drafting rooms in Pierce be kept open in the evening has been made more than once to officers of the Engineering Department. The reply has been that students will not avail themselves of the opportunity. Of course, it is possible that such would be the case, but the accuracy of this view seems doubtful. By opening one of the rooms at night for a short trial period, it would be possible to determine definitely whether or not there is a demand sufficient to justify a change in the present policy.
