Dr. Rudolph Eucken, proferssor of philosophy at the University of Jena at Jena, has been appointed exchange professor at the University for next fall.
Professor Eucken was born in Aurich, Germany, in 1846. He studied for four years at Gottingen and Berlin, and then in 1871 became the teacher of a gymnasium at Berlin.
The following year he was appointed professor of philosophy at Basel, and two years later went to the University of Jena, where he has been professor ever since.
He is a very copious author, having written thirty odd books on philosophy and its relations to Christianity. His most important works are "The Life of the Spirit," "Christianity and the New Idealism," and the "Meaning and Value of Life." In 1908 he received the Nobel prize as the most eminent philosopher of the time.
Nearly all his works have been translated from the original German, and are very popular, being warm and full of enthusiasm and life.
