FOGG ART MUSEUM REPORT

Many Acquisitions to Valuable Collection Made During Past Year.

The annual report of the Fogg Art Museum, issued by he director, Edward W. Forbes, enumerates the many important accessions of the past year. The Museum has received the following additions to its permanent collections of works of art: two water color drawings by John Ruskin--"Convent and Alpine Pass," and "Pass of Faido"--presented by friends of Professor C. H. Moore, the first director of the Fogg Museum; from the French government, eight pieces of Sevres porcelain; a Japanese painting by an early Ukiyoye master from Mr. Owen Bryant '04; and thirty-six plaster casts of Arretine moulds from Mr. James Loeb '88. A Venetian painting representing the Holy Family, attributed to Bonifazio, was bought with the help of gifts from Dr. Denman W. Ross '75 and Mr. Charles C. Walker '92.

To the print collection an unusually large number of additions have been made. Mr. Paul J. Sachs '00 has given Rembrandt's "Great Jewish Bride," the "Sheperdess Knitting," by Millet, sixty-one etchings by Jacquemart, and fifty-one etchings by Herman A. Webster. "The Furnace Nocturne," by Whistler came from an anonymous giver. Mr. Francis Bullard '86 presented the "Clyde" form Turner's "Liber Studiorum" and Lupton's copy of the "Mill near the Grand Chartreuse." Thirteen etchings by James D. Smillie were received form his son, Mr. James C. Smillie. The Nocturne, a lithotint by Whistler was purchased from the income of the Gray fund.

The Museum has added 541 photographs and 507 slides to its collection. The total number of the former is now 43,308, and of the latter 4,783.
