1917 VS. GROTON TOMORROW

Freshman Football Team Primed by Coaches for First Game.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Freshman football team had three hours of hard practice yesterday afternoon in preparation for their first game, to be played at Groton tomorrow. Both linemen and backfield candidates started the afternoon at the dummies, after which the linemen were instructed in general offensive tactics by P. Withington '09. The backs practiced kicking and catching punts. V. Kennard '09, of the 1908 football team, gave the men some hints on drop-kicking.

Finally teams A and B lined up against each other in a long scrimmage unmarked by brilliant playing on either side, though Duncan, Harris, and Hart did well for team A. Wood scored a touchdown for Team B after which Team A played more aggressively but was unable to score.

Team Has Heavy Line.

Though the Freshman team this year has on it no phenomenal stars, the coaches hope to turn out another sturdy team. The regular line from tackle to tackle averages 181 pounds, and gives promise of future development.
