Total of 25 Crews Now in Action.-University Ralses Stroke.

Seventeen crews were on the river yesterday afternoon and eight crews worked at the machines in the Newell Boathouse. The two University crews took long paddles from Stillman Infirmary to the Union Boat Club; especial attention again being given to the finish. For the first time this fall the stroke was raised to 32. The order of the crews remained unchanged.

The showing of the Freshmen has been exceedingly good. Of the 90 candidates the large majority had had no experience whatever. However daily work on the machines under the direction of Head Coach MacVicar has taught the men some of the rudiments of rowing. The first boats of Gore, Smith and Standish Halls took twenty minute spins on the river. At present the Freshmen are seated as follows:

First Gore-Stroke, Putnam; 7, Wiliams; 6, Olyphant; 5, Nathan; 4, Holt; 3, Gray; 2, Morgan; bow, Read; cox Kielter.

First Standish-Stroke, Parker; 7, Dicker; 6, Balch; 5, Jenney; 4, Gundrie; 3, Knaugh; 2, Wright; bow, Longear; cox., Place.

First Smith-Stroke, Busk; 7, Quim by; 6, De Veau; 5, Brazer; 4, McDonald; 3, Mosler; 2, Frazer; bow, Russell; cox., Jackson.

All the aspirants for the club crews put in a hard afternoon's work. Ten crews were seated; the following men composing the First Eliot and First Thayer boats:
