SEVEN CREWS OUT ON RIVER

One Hundred and Eighty-Nine Candidates for University and Freshman Eight Reported.

One hundred and eighty-nine men, ninety candidates for the Freshman crew, reported at the Newell boathouse yesterday afternoon for fall rowing practice. Four University and three Freshman, crews were out on the river, and the remaining men were given instruction on the machines. All University crew candidates who were not seated in one of the four University boats are to report to Coach Brown at the Weld boat-house this afternoon at 4 o'clock; where they will be divided into boats representing the Eliot and Thayer clubs. The third and fourth University crews will later be made of equal strength and will be known as the first Eliot and Thayer crews respectively, but will continue to row from the Newell boathouse. More University coxswains should report at the Weld boathouse this afternoon.

Coach Herrick followed the four University crews on short spins in the Pup; and Coach Haines, instructed the first three. Freshman crews from the John Harvard yesterday afternoon. The stroke was kept low, particular emphasis being laid on getting the men together at a comparatively low yet powerful stroke. From present indications the season will be the most successful in the history of fall rowing.

The orders of the first two University crews, which were so divided as to be of equal power, were so divided as to be of equal power, were as follows:

UNIVERSITY A.-Stroke, Lund; 7, Talcott; 6; Culber; 5, Stebbins; 4, Coolidge; 3, Cabot; 2, Herrick; bow, Potter; cox., Kreger.

UNIVERSITY B.-Stroke, Brown; 7, Quimby; 6, Pope; 5, Richardson; 4, Franklin; 3, Moody; 2, Mongan; bow, Busk; cox., Cameron.
