AUSPICIOUS OPENING FOR OPERA SEASON LAST NIGHT

Montemezzi's "The Love of Three Kings" Seen in Boston.--"Carmen" Shown This Evening.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The return of grand opera to Boston after an absence of two years was marked last evening by the appearance of Montemezzi's new work "The Love of Three Kings." This year's season is introductory to a precedent in local operatic staging in that Mlle. Pavlowa and her entire "Ballet Russe" have been secured to co-operate with the Boston Grand Opera Company in their productions. Thus, in "Carmen," which is being given tonight, the complete ballet will be introduced as originally composed by Bizet. This ballet has never before been given in its entirety in this country. In cases where there is no ballet in the opera given, the "Ballet Russe" is to perform as a separate number. Tomorrow night the Pavlowa company will present the "Snow Flakes" ballet from Tschaikowsky's "Nutcracker Suite." This will follow the performance of "Madame Butterfly" with Tamaki Miura, the only Japanese prima donna in the world and the operatic sensation of the year, singing the title role.

The opera known as "The Dumb Girl of Portici" will be given Thursday evening with Mlle Pavlowa as the Dumb Girl. "Carmen" will be repeated Friday, and on Saturday afternoon Maggie Teyte will be heard in "Pagliacci" followed by the "Coppelia" ballet by the Pavlowa company.

A special performance of "Madame Butterfly," with Mme. Tamaki Miura, followed by the "Snow Flakes" ballet will be given Saturday evening.
