To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
You print Mr. Sturgis' letter under the caption "Maxim Has Another Supporter," apparently inferring that such are few and far between. In this respect you are lamentably mistaken, as I have yet to meet anyone not an editor of your paper who holds to your views.
Mr. Sturgis suggests that you apologize to Mr. Maxim and to the University. You reply with catch-phrases of the most evil significance.
There is no question that Mr. Maxim selected a foolish method of spreading his ideas, laying him open as it did to possible suspicion. Such an assumption, however, should have been destroyed by his gentlemanly reply. The CRIMSON, nevertheless, with unbelievable coarseness, continued the controversy.
I am a pacifist. I do not take much stock in Mr. Maxim's propaganda-but I think that I represent the sane minds of the University when I say that if the CRIMSON does not now actually apologize for the feeble-mindedness of irresponsible editorial writers,-that no editorial of the CRIMSON will again receive the respectful attention which it should deserve.
You are the holders of a trust from the University-its good name-and this trust you have disgracefully violated. E. A. LE ROY, JR., '16.
