Philadelphia, Pa., Jan. 28, 1916.-- The University of Pennsylvania fencing team defeated the Harvard team here tonight by a 5 to 4 score. The contest was unusually close and hard fought. E. P. Hamilton. '19 did the best work of the evening, although he won only one match while B. S. Nichols '16 won two bouts. Captain W. H. Russell '18 was slightly off form, winning but one match.

The University team will leave for Annapolis early tomorrow morning, where they will oppose the Midshipmen. The University fencers have never scored a victory over the Naval Academy, but the strength of this year's team is greater than that of previous years, and victory is hoped for.
