1919 FAVORED LANGUAGES

First and Second Concentration Groups Gained at Expense of Third in Choice of Freshmen.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The list of studies chosen by 1919 for concentration shows a tendency to revert to the choice of 1917, rather than follow the lead of 1918. The third group, that of history, government, and economics, which came into favor last year, has slumped back to the standard of 1917. Twenty-six per cent. of 1919 has chosen this field of concentration, as against 31 per cent. for the Sophomores and 25 per cent. for the Juniors.

First Group Most Popular.

The first group, always the most popular, has gained slightly over last year, a record number of 276 men choosing this field. Romance Languages shows the greatest gain in this group.

Group two, as usual, claims between one-fourth and one-fifth of the class. Physics shows the greatest gain, with ten men from 1919 as against one for 1918. Chemistry leads the group with a total of 78 men, six more than ever before.
