RECORD TRACK SQUAD REPORTED

University and Freshman Candidates on Spring Training Schedule.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University track squad was swened to 177 yesterday when men who had been training during the winter reported for spring work. Of this number 112 came out for the University team, while 65 reported for the 1920 squad. There are 33 University field event men, as compared with 20 on the Freshman squad, while there are 79 runners on the University squad as compared with 45 on the Freshman squad. The Freshman hurdles and pole vault drew the smallest number of men, each of these events attracting only three candidates.

For the first time this year the Stadium track was in use. Although it is still a little soft, it is better than the other track, and the former will be used from now on. Only the straightaway and the track along the western side of the bowl are in proper condition as yet, but a few more days of this warm weather or a warm rain will get the frost out of the ground, so that the entire track can be put into shape.

At practice yesterday afternoon the runners did little more than limber up. Coach Donovan will not work the squad hard until after the men have had a few days of warming up. The training schedule which provides definite times for training to reach event, went into effect yesterday. This schedule is one of the innovations instituted by the track management in order to attain the fullest efficiency from the coaching system.

To date, 20 men have entered in the Pennsylvania relay carnival to be held in Philadelphia April 27 and 28. Additional entries will be made as more men show their ability.

Last year also the University entered a team in these games, but not so large a one as will compete this year. Entries have been made in track and field events.
