COMMITTEE GAVE 1922 HOCKEY MEN NUMERALS

TENNIS CAPT. TEMPORARY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Acting upon the recommendation of the Student Council, the Athletic Committee has decided to award numerals to the manager and ten members of the 1922 hockey squad selected by the coach, although the Freshmen were unable to play either Yale or Princeton this year because of weather conditions. The men who will receive insignia are: H. F. Colt, captain, D. Angier, C. Baker, W. Banes, M. Gratwick, H. Humphrey, L. Lincoln, J. Martin, J. O'Mealy, R. Smith, and A. M. Wrenn, manager.

The Committee also voted to award the "H" to the men who had become managers of their respective teams as Seniors, but had been prevented by the war from completing the season of 1916-17. P. S. Howe '17, crew; Hampton Robb '17, football; G. A. Parsons '17, baseball; and A. E. MacDougall '17, hockey manager will receive the University letter under this ruling. C. D. Murray '19, and E. D. Morse '19, who has recently been killed in France, were awarded the "H" as men who had won their second assistant managerships, but had never succeeded to the position of manager of football and baseball, respectively, because of the cancellation of schedules due to the war.

It appeared that some misunderstanding had arisen as to whether F. C. Hanighen '21 had been elected permanent or temporary captain of the tennis team. The Committee decided that the election was only as temporary captain, as no authority had been given for the election of a permanent captain.

Swimming Team Received Insignia.

The University swimming team, although not competing with Yale this winter, was awarded insignia as follows: A. H. Andrews '20, R. Ashton '20, A. Levy '21, M. D. Kahn '21, F. S. Stranahan '21, G. Tilton '20, F. Tishman '21, L. J. Workum '20, and H. S. Villard '21, manager. The following members of the Freshman Class, who placed in the 1922 swimming meet with Yale, are to receive their numerals: T. F. Baxter, B. Boyce, R. T. Butterfield, W. W. Douglass, H. S. Kimball, C. F. Peters, E. G. Ratcliffe, and U. A. Ridley.

The Freshman football schedule for next fall was ratified and the election of W. W. McLeod '19 and S. K. Bolton '21 as captains of the baseball and rifle teams, respectively, was approved. C. S. Howard '20 who competed against Yale in the Intercollegiate Fencing Tournament, was awarded insignia.
