ROBERT JONES SPEAKS ON "THE NEW DRAMA"

Mr. Robert E. Jones '10 will speak tonight on "The New Drama" in the John Knowles Paine Concert Hall of the Music Building at 8 o'clock. Mr. Jones is recognized today as the leading artist in stagecraft in the country. He is particularly notable for his versatility--having designed every kind of scenery for many different kinds of theatrical works. It is expected that in his talk tonight he will touch on the relation of scenery to the modern drama and on the staging of modern plays.

After studying in this country for some time, part of it under the Fine Arts Department here, Mr. Jones went to Berlin where he studied scenic design at Reinhardt's Theatre. Since returning to America, he has designed scenery and costumes for the Russian Ballet, "Caliban," Claire Kummer's comedy "Good Gracious, Annabel," and "A Successful Calamity," with William Gillette. Mr. Jones designed the scenery for John Barrymore's last three successes: "Redemption." "The Jest," and "Richard the Third," and one of his latest works is that in the new Ben Ami play produced by Arthur Hopkins. Because they did not attain his ideal, Mr. Jones has destroyed most of his models of stage settings recently exhibited in New York, where he has also lectured on "The New Drama."

Tickets for Mr. Jones' lecture have been sent out to the members of the "47 Workshop" and, upon application, to students in Music, Fine Arts, and English Departments. A limited number may still be obtained on personal application at the office of "47 Workshop" in Lower Massachusetts Hall.
