Crimson Fencers Overwhelm Quakers Winning All Matches--J. S. Barss '22 Loses in Duelling Swords Match

The Crimson foilsmen completely outclassed the University of Pennsylvania fencing team by a 9-0 score on Saturday. The contest took place at Weightman Hall Philadelphia.

In only one match did the University meet with strong opposition, when Captain Burke Boyee '22 came up from three touches behind, and defeated Carvers.

Hettinger, the Penn captain, collapsed after his second bout, as a result of illness and was replaced by Berner who was easily defeated by E. H. Lane '24. A special match with duelling swords was won by Carvers, of the Quakers against J. S. Barss '22.

The summary:

First Round. E. H. Lane defeated Carvers, 7-5; E. L. Lane defeated Thomson, 7-4; Boyee defeated Hettinger, 7-5.

Second Round. E. H. Lane defeated Thomson, 7-8; E. L. Lane defeated Hettinger, 7-2; Boyee defeated Carvers, 7-6.

Third Round. E. H. Lane defeated Berner (substituting for Hettinger), 7-0; E. L. Lane defeated Carvers 7-4; Boyee defeated Thomson, 7-8.
