R. O. T. C. UNIT PLANS FOR LARGE ENROLLMENT

Equipment Greatly Improved During Summer--Outdoor Riding Ring Nearing Completion--Polo Cage and 21 Montana Polo Ponies Acquired

With many improvements in the equipment of the Military Science Department of the University since last year, the R. O. T. C. Unit is now entering upon its fourth year with prospects of a larger enrollment than ever before. A year ago the enrollment was doubled and the work of the department was greatly facilitated by the construction of stables and barracks on Soldiers Field; further difficulties were overcome last summer.

The stabling facilities have been greatly improved and in addition a fire-proof equipment building and a machine shop have been constructed. A corral has been added in order that the horses will have a place to exercise, and an out door riding ring is now nearing completion. This will serve as a new location for the instruction of classes in equitation.

Quality of Horses Improved

The greatest improvement, however, is in the quality of the horses. Nineteen of the inferior animals have been disposed of and their places have been filled by 21 Montana ponies of the polo type. At present a polo practice cage is under construction in order that students may be able to learn the rudiments of stick work.

The Military Science Department is planning to have ten riding periods every week, two every afternoon of the weekdays and of these the Freshmen will have a choice of six periods while the rest will be reserved for advanced men.
