MAY DROP DISCUSS FROM FIELD EVENTS

The removal of the discus throw from the order of events of all future spring intercollegiate championship track meets may be the outcome of a joint meeting of the members of the executive and advisory committees of the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America, according to a statement issued by the track management yesterday.

The meeting, at which 21 of the leading colleges were represented, was held on Sunday afternoon in the Columbia University Club.

At this meeting a report was read of the last intercollegiate track meet, which was held on May 25, 1923 at Franklin Field, Philadelphia, The fact that at this meet the track events were finished early in the afternoon while the field events dragged on until nearly 9 o'clock that evening was discussed and remedies were suggested. At present although there are eight track events and seven field events the track events are almost invariably run off long before the field events. To better equalize the program it was suggested that some one field event, preferably the discus-throw, be abolished, while some one track event should be added to the program. For the additional track event, a 440 yards hurdle race, a relay race, or an additional distance run was suggested, and the meeting as a whole seemed in favor of a relay race. Definite action, however, was postponed until the next meeting on November 25, and the program was left unchanged. The official lists of events as they now stand is given below.

Track events: 100 yards dash, 220 yards dash, 120 yards hurdles, 220 yards hurdles, 440 yards run, half mile run, mile run, and two mile run.

Field events: putting the shot, throwing the javelin, pole vaulting, running high jump, running broad jump, throwing the hammer and throwing the discus.

The further business of the meeting consisted in the approval of Monday, November 26, as the date for the University and Freshman Intercollegiate cross country runs, and the election of E. M. Greene Jr. '24, Yale track manager, as temporary president of the I. C. A. A. A. A., to hold office until a permanent president will be elected by the executives and advisory committees.

At present the executive committee of the Association are the undergraduate track managers at Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell and M. I. T. The members of the advisory committee are Gustavus T. Kirby of Columbia, A. C. Gilbert of Yale, Rupert D. Thomas Jr. of Princeton, L. W. George of the University of California, and A. Joslin H. McGrath of Cornell.
