Fred Stone, now starring at the Colonial Theatre in "Stepping Stones," will be the guest of the Union at a luncheon at 1 o'clock today at which 200 members are expected to be present. After the luncheon Mr. Stone will speak briefly.
Mr. Stone has been on the stage for 40 years. At 14 he ran away from his home in Kansas and joined a circus. Then followed many years of knocking about until in 1900 he formed his famous partnership, Montgomery and Stone. The world renowned pair of comedians continued to play together until Mr. Montgomery's death in 1917 dissolved the partnership.
Among the shows in which Mr. Stone has appeared are the "Wizard of Oz" in which he scored a great hit as a scarecrow, "The Red Mill," "Chin-Chin," and now "Stepping Stones".
