Under ideal weather conditions, Coach Fisher put his squad of football candidates, through a strenuous practice session in the Stadium yesterday afternoon, in which the men wore pads for the first time. Through additions during the last two days, the squad now numbers about ninety men, and the coaches hope to have a hundred out by the end of the week.
Yesterday, breaking through was indulged in by the backfield candidates, but the linemen, confined their attention to passing the medicine ball, and falling on the ball. Coach Fisher announced yesterday that there will be no scrimmages until possibly the last few days of practice.
Contests for the various kicking passing the running competitions will begin today. Kickoffs, drop-kicks and place kicks will all be contested for separately. In the running events, the men will be divided into groups under 170 pounds, between 170 and 190 pounds, and over 190 pounds.
