NINE PLAYS STRONG MAINE TEAM TODAY

A busy baseball week will get under way on Soldiers Field diamond this afternoon at 4 o'clock, when the University players meet a visiting Bowdoin nine. The Brunswick, college comes fresh from a string of favorable decisions and with a determination to avenge the setback which it received last year.

Coach Hauser's team will be the only representative of Maine to invade Cambridge this season. Last year its neighbors. Bates and the University of Maine, also came to the University and met similar defeats.

The fact that the Bowdoin nine is touted particularly as a batting organization may cause Coach Mahan some anxiety for the afternoon. It is in view of this fact, perhaps, that he is starting Spalding on the mound, who can be depended upon to hold his own against a group of slugging opponents. It was expected at petted at prost that he might start Gehrke, who has not yet seen service in an outside game this year rat the latter's injured football shoulder still appears to be handicapping his form.

Bowdoin's last triumph was an 8 to 5 victory over Colby in a championship contest. It was in this game that it demonstrated those batting potentialities which menace the offerings of the University pitchers. Both Fish, the Bowdoin right fielder, and the first baseman, Smell, were responsible for a safety each time they faced the pitcher, and have played themselves capable of handling anything given them by an opposing nurley throughout the season.
