The first recipient of the Harvard Athletic Association special merit medal is to be awarded to E. L. Farrell, University track coach, according to a statement made at the H. A. A. offices last night. The special merit medal, a form of award created last spring, is intended to be given in recognition of a specially meritorious service to the Athletic Association in cases where some other award such as a letter or other insignia cannot properly be made. The award of this medal has never yet been made.
On the back of the medal which will be presented to Farrell will be inscribed the words "in grateful recognition of the brotherly care of Edward L. Farrell for William F. Donovan which exemplifies Mr. Farrell's wholehearted service to Harvard athletics."
