THE TEAM AND THE COACH

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The victory over a favored Yale hockey team, undefeated until Saturday's game, places the University six on a level of final competence with that of the championship teams of the past few years. Rising from the uncertainty of a mediocre season, it outplayed at every angle a Blue team stamped as immeasureably its superior by those who know. While the annual series is only just begun, the Harvard team has gained the psychological advantage in a foothold from which it will be dislodged with difficulty.

The work of the team on the Garden ice Saturday night was a special tribute to the direction of Coach Stubbs. Where Yale boasted more and more brilliant individual performers, Harvard presented a game based on lines of sound coaching which checked and smothered the Yale speed. Especially notable was the Harvard defense method of meeting the attack at center ice and taking its sting before it was near the goal. It is such achievements as this, in the face of dubious odds, that bring home forcibly the fact that the University sport teams are guided by men who know their business. The second trial of hockey strength between the teams will be watched more eagerly because of the proof of the first.
