NINE POUNDS' OUT WIN OVER MAROON IN RAGGED GAME

Amasses Eleven Runs in Opening Three Frames--Nugent With Four Safeties Leads Crimson Hitters

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University diamond forces, combining eight hits with the ineffective pitching of two Lafayette pitchers, amassed an 11-run lead in the first three innings of yesterday's game, to win by a 16 to 7 score. There was a noticeable drizzle throughout, and the contest, despite sporadic moments of brilliant fielding, was marred by nearly every miscue known to baseball.

Maroon Batters Score Twice in First

The visitors pushed two counters across in the opening frame. An outfield error, followed by two singles and an infield out, were the factors responsible. Four bases on balls, combined with a lone hit by F. E. Nugent '29 and a sacrifice fly, accounted for three runs for Harvard however.

The giant Maroon right-hander was driven to the showers in the next inning. Two infield errors, a hit by pitched ball, and four singles were responsible for five more runs, and incidentally the appearance of Woodsfin, who was greeted with a barrage of four hits, including a triple by Nugent and a double by G. E. Donaghy '29.

Third Lafayette Pitcher Twlrls

At this juncture, Carney was brought onto the firing line and held the Crimson well in hand for the rest of the tilt, no earned runs being scored off his delivery. Lafayette scored four times in the fifth, during a temporary demoralization of the Harvard infield.

Nugent was the leading Crimson batter, securing two singles, a double, and a triple out of five times up, but all the local sluggers outside of the battery improved their averages considerably.
