SQUAD HOLDS DRILL IN SPITE OF HEAT

Coach French Retains 72 of Original 180 Candidates--Dean Chauncey to Handle Remainder

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With the weather so hot yesterday that the fall baseball squad candidates were sent in to the showers after a half hour's workout Coach Horween had his University squad members strip off their heavy uniforms and run through a session that lasted from 2.30 until 5 o'clock. The linemen all discarded their jerseys while the backs and ends kept on nothing but their running trunks and track shirts.

The work was easy but the men were kept at it consistently throughout the whole afternoon. A great deal of time was devoted to individual instruction after which Horween and Casey took the backs and ends and formed a skeleton team and the linemen were taken over by Coaches Dunne and Hubbard. A blackboard talk on line play followed for the linemen after which they worked out on the machines.

The teams wound up the afternoon with a few minutes signal drill in which Putnam. Wetmore and Gleason led the A, B, and C combinations, respectively. Ben Ticknor reported with blistered feet and was excused from the drill, Gildea taking his place on Team A, and Cunningham moving up to Team B. Art Devens then jumped into the gap at center on Team C.

Ticknor is expected back today and will take part in the scrimmage between Horween's and Knox's squads. With Ticknor only out for one day Greeley still remains the only one on the injured list.
