A recommendation that boxing be instituted as a minor sport at Harvard in the year 1930-31 was made by the Student Council at its meeting yesterday. It was further suggested that the captain of the boxing team be a member of the Minor Sports Council.
A plan for making boxing an intercollegiate sport at Harvard was proposed two years ago but was defeated by undergraduate members of the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports. Recently, however, interest in the sport has been shown, and added facilities for the pursuance of it will be provided in the new gymnasium. The recommendation will be referred to the Committee on the Regulation of Athletic Sports for approval.
