So many rumors have been current in regard to the Memoirs of Georges Clemenceau, "Les Grandeur et Miseres d'une Victoire," which he was writing up to the time of his last illness that French officials and two members of the French Academy have examined the work and have signed a document in regard to the state in which Clemenceau left it. The ex-Premier's son, Michael Clemenceau, has just sent this document to Harcourt, Brace and Company who will publish the book, uncensored, in America under the title "Memoirs of a Victory". The document states that the work was completely finished by Clemenceau and that nothing remains to he done except a final revision for the press, undertaken by his daughter, Madame Jacquemaine, under M. Clemenceau's directions, and the insertion in the text of a few documents which M. Clemenceau had entrusted to her to insert in their proper place.
Publication will take place simultaneously in France, England, and America the middle of March.
One of the most important books on the Harper list will be published on February 19th: "The 42nd Parallel", the first novel in three years by John Dos Passos '16.
Dorothy Heyward's first novel, "Hot Water", will be published this Spring by The Century Co. The author is the wife of Dubose Heyward and collaborated on the stage version of the famous novel "Porgy".
Kenneth Macgowan '41, whose fourteen thousand mile survey of the little theatre resulted in "Footlights Across America" recently published by Harcourt, Brace and Company, has a production on Broadway which shows every sign of becoming one of the year's successes. "Children of Darkness," Mr. Macgowan is at present an active member of the Executive Committee of the Cambridge School of the Drama.
