HARVARD CUBS BATTLE TO TIE WITH ANDOVER

DEFENSIVE PLAYING FEATURE OF HARD FOUGHT GAME

Harvard freshmen opened their football season by playing a scoreless tie with Phillips Andover Academy at Andover on Saturday. Strong defensive playing by both elevens was a feature of the game. The battle was fought between the twenty yard lines, and neither team was able to gain consistently.

The Blue was unable to make one first down against the Harvard men, but the freshmen had similar luck in making any yardage through the Andover line. Jackson and Gibson showed up as the best ball carriers for the Cambridge freshmen.

Several former Andover athletes were in the Harvard lineup: John Bird, Scott Fitz, Norman Cahners, Malcolm Millard, and William Jones all having represented the prep school last season.

The lineups:

Harvard; l.e., Murphy; l.t., Golden; l.g., Miller; c., Letart; r.g., Prout; r.t., Burton; r.e., Kelly; q.b., Sullivan; l.h., Jackson; r.h., Gibbs; f.b., Lane.

Andover: l.e., Tardiff; l.t., Fry; l.g., H. Sears; c., Lewis; r.g., R. Sears; r.t., Hite; r.e., McTernan; q.b., Kellogg; l.h., Burdick; r.h., Platt; f.b., Graham.
