200 FRESHMEN TURN OUT FOR FOOTBALL AT FIRST MEETING

Casey Mixes Hard Scrimmage With Drill On New Plays--Tackles and Guards Show Improvement

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Exactly 200 Freshman football candidates reported to Coach R. H. Bond '19 yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field in the opening turnout of the first-year men.

After having watched his men go through a grass drill, Coach Bond characterized the group as looking better than last year's turnout. The squad at the moment possesses plenty of material for the backfield and in the way of guards and tackles, but the ends are light and the centres weak.

Promising backs are H. J. Adzigian of Lawrence, F. G. Dunlevy of Roxbury Latin, N. D. Hardwick of Milton Academy, F. J. Lane of Exeter, W. S. Parquette of Salem High, Cedric Janian of Worcester Academy, E. H. B. Pratt of Groton, John Bird of Andover, R. H. Waldinger of Country Day, and W. S. Berton of Middlesex.

J. D. Whittemore of Exeter and F. H. Atherton of St. Marks are guards with considerable experience, while for the tackle positions Paul Wilson of Exeter, R. T. Fisher, Jr. of Noble & Greenough, and Malcolm Millard of Andover are good-looking material.

Out of the 25 men who reported for the tackle positions only six were under six feet, and five weighed over 200 pounds.

Scrimmage For Varsity

A tiring stationary line scrimmage and half an hour of running signals featured yesterday's workout for the varsity football team. Coach Casey also gave his team a long blackboard talk and a couple of new plays to work on.

No doubleheader will take place this Saturday as has been rumored lately. The two Gleasons, Casey, and Crocker are the only men left on the sick list at the present time. Barrows at tackle and Crane and Gundlach at guards continued to show improvement yesterday. The lineups: Team A: Nazro, l.e.; Hardy, l.t.; Esterly, l.g.; Hallowell, c.; Gundlach, r.g.; Bancroft, r.t.; Hageman, r.e.; Wells, q.; Nevin, f.b.; Dean, r.h.; Crickard, l.h. Team B: Cassedy, l.e.; Littlefield, l.t.; Crane, l.g.; Cassale, c.; Rogers, r.g.; Francisco, r.t.; Bartol, r.e.; Whitney, q.; Pescosolido, l.h.; Grady, r.h.; Litman, f.b. Team C: Walcott, l.e.; Barrows, l.t.; Healey, l.g.; Schumann, c.; Dow, r.g.; Kidder, r.t.; Lowe, r.e.; Sherman, q.; Hurlbut, r.h.; Waters, f.b.; Locke, l.h.
