BOATINGS FOR VARSITY CREW ALTERED FOR RACE

COACH MUST BUILD SOPHOMORE MEMBERS FOR NEXT YEAR

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With revised boatings as the result of daily practice sessions during the vacation the Varsity Crews will resume their activity this afternoon. Coach Whiteside has made an almost definite choice of the men who will row against Princeton and M.I.T. in the Compton Cup Races on May 9. Whiteside is facing the same problem that Joe Stubbs faced in hockey this winter. A champion crew has graduated leaving only one veteran and five members of the present boat are Sophomores. It is the problem of the coach to build for next year when the positions of the two men who are graduating this year will be adequately filled by some of the members of the present Jayvee boat and to trust to luck that the Crimson will make a respectable showing during the coming season.

Simmons at No. 3

Under the present arrangement Captain Brad Simmons, the only veteran, will row at No. 3 thus returning to the position he occupied last year and displacing Saltonstall who has been moved to No. 7 on the Jayvee boat. Eliel has been moved from the Jayvee boat. Eliel has been moved from the second boat to fill Simmons place at the Varsity No.7. The only other changes in the first boat has been the substitution of Bob Drysdale for Jim Gardiner who has been moved to No. 4 in the Jayvees.

The present boatings are;

Varsity; Stroke, Sam Drury; No. 7, Eliel: No. 6, Drysdale; No. 5, Barrows; No. 4, Atherton; No. 3, Simmons; No. 2, Whipple; Stroke, Bow, Clark; Cox, Litchfield.

Jayvee: Stroke, Cutler; No. 7, Saltonstall; No. 6, Knowles; No. 5, Iselin; No. 4, Gardiner; No. 3, Weld; No. 2, Reece; Bow, Haberstroh; Cox, Parish.

Third: Stroke, Roger Drury, No. 7, Bray; No. 6, Keyes; No. 5, Burton; No. 4, Chace; No. 3, Rantoul; No. 2, Swazey; Bow, Farley; Cox, Bissell.
