"Unfair Harvard" is the new title applied to the Crimson's traditional hymn by Upton Sinclair in the February issue of "Common Sense," out today. This is termed a tribute to Thomas N. Carver, professor of Political Economy, Emeritus.
According to Sinclair the reason is "that I have just been visiting a friend in Los Angeles who tells me that he paid $35 to attend a lecture course by Professor Carver.
Economic Voluntarism
Commenting on the fact that Professor Carver always, in his lectures to business men, refers to capitalism as "economic voluntarism," Sinclair says: "I shall urge all of our EPICS to adopt this fashion immediately."
Harvard has a reputation among other colleges for intellectual preciosity, but the Editors of "Common Sense," both Yale men, have let Harvard take the tap in this case, not from college spirit, but because they feel that Professor Carver's manner is too pedantic.
