In polls conducted in 1936 and 1937 by the National Institute of Social Dancing, representing 1,200 dancing academical in the United States, Hal Kemp's orchestra was voted tops. The standing of the bands in the latest poll was as follows:

Hal, Kamp, Guy Lombardo, Horace Heidt, Benny Goodman, Eddy Duchin, Ted Weems, Phil Harris, Glen Gray, Cab Calloway and Shep Fields.
