YARDLINGS EDGED 4-3

Three walks in the seventh inning coupled with two hits for four runs off the pitching of Slim Curtiss sent the Crimson nine down to a 5-4 defeat at the hands of St. Johns Saturday afternoon in a flawlessly played game at Soldiers Field.

Up to the fateful seventh Curtiss had kept the enemy's four hits and one walk well scattered for one tally. After singling and scoring a run in the sixth frame, the tall Crimson righthander temporarily lost composure issuing the three successive passes and the two deciding basehits when he next faced the Redmen.

Crimson Infield Shines

Dissatisfied with the infield that on Friday made six errors against Pennsylvania, Coach Fred Mitchell reverted to his earlier combination of Ulysses Lupien at first, Dave Shean on second, Art Johns at short, and Dick Grondahl in the hot corner. Led by Johns who figured in eight put-outs, the infield played errorless ball with interspersed displays of brilliancy.

Lupe's outfield fly and Grondahl's single brought in two runs in the first, while Shean drove in the other pair of Crimson tallies in the sixth inning.

Yardlings Edged by Holy Cross

Russ Houghton, pitching his second game of the week in the absence of the regular hurlers, Jack Schwede and Charlie Brackett, lost a tough decision to Holy Cross Saturday at Soldiers Field 4-3. Both Stoughton and the visiting pitcher, Bill Pheeny, allowed only six hits and four walks, but the Crimson fielders outbooted their opponents 6-3.
