Beauty Contest at Harvard-Radcliffe Tea Off, but Upperclassmen Rate Girls

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A beauty contest slated for yesterday's Harvard-Radcliffe Freshman ten in Brooks House was called off when a Radcliffe Dean objected to the fact that P. B. H. pundits had been taking down the names and telephone numbers of Radcliffe Freshmen for their "records".

Her chief objection, however, was to the fact that the contest sponsors were rating the girls on a four-star, three-star, two-star, blackball basis.

Many Harvard upperclassmen who crashed the tea, technically held only for Freshmen, made up their own dope sheets.

Although the contest was called off the tea went over with a bang as 250 Harvard and Radcliffe students jammed into the main reception room of P.B.H. and bent elbows over the ten tables.

The Radcliffe group, liberally sprinkled with upperclass women, were name tags around their necks.

Raymond Dennett '36, 3G, youthful graduate secretary of Brooks House, was in great demand by the corps of Radcliffe ushers, who alleged that there was a shortage of 'nice tall Freshmen."

The Radcliffe girls came stag. Within the staid and ivied walls of Brooks House, dancing is taboo. But there is a rumor that Harvard's social service center will continue its work of breaking down traditional Harvard-Radcliffe antipathy by sponsoring a tea dance later this fall.
