TRACKMEN DROP TRIAL MEET TO HOLY CROSS

Northeastern Ends Last in Practice Triangular Games; Heard Whirls Discus 145 Feet, 9 Inches

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Holy Cross took nine first places to the Crimson cindermen's eight in the practice triangular meet Saturday afternoon on Soldiers field. Northeastern was the other participant.

The Mikkolamen swept the field events to account for seven of their eight first. Nat Heard made a herculean heave of 145 feet 9 inches in the discus throw for one of the best individual performances of the meet, outdistancing Walewski of Holy Cross by more than nine feet.

Encouraging to Coach Mikkola was the Crimson's monopoly of the first three places in the hammer throw. Although he was forced to go easy due to a strain incurred early in the week, Bill Shallow took first place with a heave of 155 feet 11 1/2 inches. Gale and Smith finished second and third respectively.

Captain Jim Lightbody accounted for the Crimson's only first place in the running events. He breezed to victory in the 660-yard run in the excellent time of one minute 19.8 seconds.
