Thayer Hall fell for one of the oldest gags known to Cambridge the other night when a dignified voice, claiming to be the Maintenance Department, informed all three entries by phone that the water supply could not be used.
"I have a crew working down under Mass Avenue," said the voice, "and we can't go on unless you stop using the water." CRIMSON files show that this gag was first pulled by messenger 152 years after the founding of the college.
Thayer nevertheless suffered the indignity in silence for several hours. Someone in North entry at last could contain himself no longer and phoned the Yard cops. "Is there anything wrong with the water in Thayer Hall?" he asked. "No," was the reply.
