Despite two inspired singles wins by Orme Wilson and Aubrey Gould, the Varsity tennis forces dropped all three doubles contests to suffer a decisive 7 to 2 loss to the Elis last Saturday afternoon on the rain-soaked, wind-swept courts at New Heaven.

Wilson, having come up with consistent wins recently, continued to play in top form by defeating Chuck Spaulding in straight sets, while Gould, a new-comer to the first six, nosed out Jim Ethridge in two straight deuce sets.

The most disheartening individual loss for the Crimson was Captain Sonny Lyell's defeat at the hands of New England intercollegiate champion Bob Freedman. Lyell, playing his best of the season, had two match points on his oponents only to lose in three long drawn-out sets.

The summery:

Singles--Cutler (Y) defeated Jenkins 6-2, 6-4, Freedman (Y) defeated Lyell 6-3, 6-4, 7-5; Stockler (Y) defeated Peabody 7-5, 6-3; Wilson (H) defeated Spaulding 6-2, 6-1; Thorn (Y) defeated Ellis 6-2, 6-1; Gould (H) defeatd Ethridge 10-8, 7-5.

Doubles--Cutler and Freedman (Y) defeated Lyell and Peabody 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, Stockler and Ehrman (Y) defeated Wilson an Ellis 6-3, 6-3; Wilmer and Rumbough (Y) defeated Gould and Daniels 6-2, 6-1.
