AMES PRIZE WON BY KEITH, HEIDEN

COMMITTEE FOR NOMINATION SET

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Eugene D. Keith '42 of Washington, D. C. and Richmond, Kentucky, and George W. Heiden of Winthrop House and Milwaukee, Wis. were awarded the annual Ames Prize at a meeting of the Student Council last night.

Keith, third marshal of the Senior Class, is the former president of the Council, and ex-Editorial Chairman of the CRIMSON, while Heiden, recently elected to the Permanent Class Committee, shone as a blocking back on the football team last fall.

The award is given each year to not more than three Seniors who display the same qualities of sound character and leadership as were typical of Richard Glover Ames '34, and his brother, Henry Russell Ames '38. The two men were drowned in a vain attempt to save their father, who was washed overboard during a trans-Atlantic yacht race.

Nominating Committee Chosen

At the same meeting the Council set up a nominating committee to select candidates from both the Sophomore and Junior classes for the coming election to the student governing body. Besides the four second-year men, and five Juniors named, the eight Senior members of the Council will choose the nominees.

The committee will meet on Tuesday night, and their selections will appear in the CRIMSON Wednesday morning. It will be possible to add more names by petition, but full details of the method will be announced later.

The Juniors chosen for the Committee are: Robert G. Axtell of Lowell House and Evanston, Ill.; Chester W. Jenks, Jr., of Eliot House and Manchester, N. H.; Donald E. McNicol, of Adams House and Flushing, N. Y.; John E. Sawhill, Jr., of Lowell House and Highlands, N. J.; and Paul C. Sheeline, of Winthrop House and Newton.

The Sophomores chosen for the Nominating Committee are: George M. Burditt, Jr., of Winthrop House and La Grange, Ill.; Brooks N. Heath, of Anburndale; John P. Kennedy, Jr., of Eliot House and Charlotte, N. C.; and George A. Saxton, Jr., of Eliot House and Short Hills, N. J.

Last year's winners of the Ames Award were Donald A. Donahue, track captain and star hurdler, and E. Langdon Burwell, class treasurer and cross-country captain.
