With its two week vacation all but over, the Varsity baseball nine is priming for its first League game since April 20, when Columbia comes to Soldiers Field on Saturday. The Lions were also the foil of the Crimson's last official contest in New York.
While the Varsity was busy with local ball clubs, the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League has been approaching its halfway mark. Princeton has surged ahead by taking a doubleheader from Dartmouth with whom it was tied a week ago.
Harvard is now in a triple tie for second with Columbia and Cornell. But Dartmouth and Yale, on the tail end of the standings, are only one game behind the Crimson. A win or loss one way or the other can change the entire set-up at any time.
Dartmouth and Princeton are almost deadlocked for team batting honors with the Indians leading .313 to .311. The Nassaus, however, have had more times at bat, more hits, more stolen bases, and more runs batted in. The Crimson with .273 remains in third, above the .254 of Penn.
Cornell Leads Team Fielding
In the team fielding statistics, Cornell has pulled itself up from next to last so that it now leads of the herd with a .944 average and only eight errors. Dartmouth, having played one more game, has .933 and 11 miscues. In fifth with .928 is the Varsity.
Bart Harvey stands third in the individual batting records behind Captain Bill MacCoy of Princeton and Lee Turner of Cornell. Leading hitters with at least ten times at bat are:
