8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
A surprise blackout test caught post-weekend Harvard off guard last night, but when the wailing sirens announced the actual raid the local ARP force had mobilized and effectively blackened out the University.
All Region 5, comprising Boston and vicinity, was included in the test which had only been forewarned with the announcement of a blackout "sometime before dawn Sunday."
Directed by Parkhurst
Under Acting Chief Warden Irving B. Parkhurst, Assistant Business Manager, resident Faculty members, employees, and students secured rapid cooperation. During the test, only a single block of lights on Massachusetts Avenue marked out the college for the imaginary night raiders.
The first preliminary signal at 9:35 o'clock called all wardens to their posts. Thirty-four minutes later the climax stage began and all street lights were blacked as a "visible signal."
