Billet Fever

By Carl Bunje and Fred Burns

Temperatures are up, bets are down, tongues are wagging, dispositions are sagging--yes--the fever is rampant.

After reading Stevension's description of the Gilbert Islands, "a superb ocean climate, days of blinding sun and bracing winds, nights of a heavenly brightness," to his class, the funster par excellence (Courts & Boards) advised BuPers that the August 25th class was mentally prepared to experience the pleasures of South Pacific twilights.

The following are the prize billets awarded to our prize boys. Don Lindow (No. 1 boy) goes to our prize boys. Don Lindow (No. 1 boy) goes to C.B. outpost on Woodie Island of the Gilbert Group as BuPers sought to satiate his life-long ambition of seeing the strange Raffiesia, the largest flower known, extending one meter in diameter. Don will be in a botanical paradise, 1500 miles from no where--what more can a man ask for these days?

To the 128th Battalion on Fullaflies Island will go Bob Fortune of G. He must purchase supplies and services in the MCABM. All that this will require is a ready supply of human teeth, the currency of Fullaflies. Better visit a "boot camp" dental office before you leave, Bob.

Gordie Van Moyer (from I) is gifted in solving disbursing problems so naturally BuPers sent him to Stinkaldei of the Malaysia Group, the only place in the Malaysia Group, the only place in the world presenting so many intriguing problems in reference to phytogeography. This is NOT a pornographic term, consult your FSSC.

The unluckiest lad of all is Bob Brooks of F. Off to the Isle of Man and a cold climate goes our super scholar. But wait, look at the statistics! Present population of the Isle of Man; males, 6,000; females, 28,000 (under 26); babies 2. My God, Brooks you better take up the art of self protection!

Off to Africa to the Gold Coast port of Goonegou will go Hal Radike of J. It is reported in the Bunje World Atlas that the women of this section have the most succulent lips of any African mammy.

Of course, to Radike this will present an interesting problem, the lips are two foot in diameter, that is, the lower ones are. Our advice is to consult Lt. McNeill before you leave. We understand that he has some special information on this subject.

DON'T-PACK YET. In a recent Sec. Nav Ltr. authority to order WAVES to foreign shore duty was granted. Anyone of the above boys may be relieved by same before departure.

Shore Billets

We are offering odds as to who will relieve Fielding. The following quotations came hot off the back room board as we went to press; P. Bennett, 1 1/2 -2; J. Donegan 15-7 1/4; A. Murphy 2 1/4 -1/2; T. Sweeny 5 rubles to a dime; C. Collins 2 ib steel to an ounce of copper.

How is your fever now? Better, we hope.

For just one simoleon everyone may dance the fever bug right off of his brow. It may be your last chance to dance to a civilized orchestra, your next will probably have a major drum section. Place that dollar in the hands of the nearest Morale officer and plan to attend the Senior dance July 24th. Those who attended the last one will tell you that dancing plays a minor role in the evening's fun
