In the annual competition among students entering Harvard, John M. Stephens of New York City and Groton School, and Theodore W. Wells of Melrose and Melrose High School, were awarded $100 George Emerson Lowell prizes in the classics. Stephens won the combined Greek and Latin translations and Wells, first in the Latin translation.
