OR A COLLEGE in which most other extracurricular organizations will be dead, the redbrick building on the one-way cow-path, 14 Plympton Street, will continue to be a focus of undergraduate life. The punch-bowl will seldom over-run this summer, but typewriters will still pound on yellow copy-paper the news of the University.

War-baby of the Harvard CRIMSON, the Harvard SERVICE NEWS serves a University that it turn serves the khaki, the blue and the seersucker. The SERVICE NEWS publishes in the 72-year-old tradition of the CRIMSON, Cambridge's only breakfast-table daily, which grew under the leadership of men like the late Franklin D. Roosevelt '04, which listed such men as James B. Conant '14 and Joseph C. Grew '02 on its executive board, and which showed some prospective editors, including Walter Lippmann '09 and Heywood C. Broun '10, the Proverbial gate.

Like every college organization today, the SERVICE NEWS needs new recruits to maintain its continuity the SERVICE NEWS needs men to continue its policy of presenting to the University all the news that fits. Especially needed are photo-men to keep the cob-webs out of the darkroom and to take the picture that are worth a thousand words.

Needed also are news-hawks to search the by-ways of the Yard to discover the gems that are most surely hidden therein. For the practical men interested in more material pursuits, the busy board throws out the welcome mat and an invitation to delve into the realms of other people's pockets.

Beer (or coke, if you prefer) will flow freely next week when the SERVICE NEWS opens the doors of candidacy for all comers. Competitions for all three boards will open Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock at the Crimson building; all are welcome, and they may be an extra barrel of beer for the particularly welcome now Freshmen.
