Smarting from Tuesday's defeat by Holy Cross, Coach Hill Barclay's Varsity quintet will attempt to resume winning ways this evening when it journeys to Providence to meet a Brown team out for its first victory of the season. The game, which will be preceded by a Jayvee contest, will begin at 8:30 o'clock in the Marvel Gymnasium.
Despite the presence of six lettermen on the squad, Brown's hoopsters have so far fallen short of the strength expected of them, succumbing in their sole outing of the season to Connecticut's Huskies, by a 65 to 44 count.
One posible reason for last week's set-back is the fact that the Bruins have had little time to learn the system of their new coach, Wilbur Ewbank, who took over the reins this fall. But according to the word from Providence, Ewbank's team is rapidly mastering the fast breaking system he has brought with him from Miami (Ohio) and Great Lakes.
Chief cog in the Brown offense tonight will be, as he has been for the past three years, Captain George Grimshaw, who operates from the left forward slot. Top Bruin scorer last year, Grimshaw figures to give Crimson defenders a rough evening with his bag of trick lay-uns, smooth floor work, and rugged defense. After Grimshaw, Coach Ewbank's material is largely unknown. He has Paul Nickel, Dave and Paul Zuber, Manny Costa, and Bill Baker left from last year. Lining them up for the Crimson, Rarclay will place his hopes on the same squad that has started against the Cross and Tech. On his performance Tuesday, John Gantt is also counted on for considerable service.
