34-Man Squad Entrains for Virginia Clash

First-String Guards Stay in Cambridge

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

For the first time in history, a Crimson team will enter the Southland to play football, and last night at South Station some 200 well-wishers, including the University band, saw it off on the train to Charlottesville, Virginia with victory-wishing songs, cheers, and slaps on the back.

Among those present but not going was first-string guard Emil Drvaric, who along with the other regular guard, Nick Rodis, and ends Bob Kennedy and Arniando Mazzono were staying in Cambridge because of injuries. Drvaric's status was doubtful until yesterday, while the others had been listed inactive all week. Henry Noonan, a substitute Jayvee guard last year, replaced Drvaric on the 34-man roster.

In their last home practice yesterday afternoon, the Varsity avoided contact work and devoted the three-hour session to a passing drill with Jim Kenary doing most of the throwing and to covering under punts and kick-offs. They polished it off with a signal-drill under the lights.

Light Workout Today

Arriving at 11:11 o'clock this morning, the eleven will indulge in a light, pregame workout in the University of Virginia Stadium this afternoon. Tonight they will be quartered in the Monticello Hotel and Pugh House and tomorrow night at 8:40 o'clock will grab a Boston-bound train out of Charlottesville.

The game will begin at 3 o'clock and will be broadcast here by radio station WHDH.

Coach Dick Harlow returned his backfield to its original lineup yesterday with Ken O'Donnell at quarterback, Kenary at tailback, Chip Gannon at wingback, and Captain Vince Moravec at fullback. Jim Feinberg and Bob Drennan worked out at guards in place of the Drvaric Rodis combination.

The squad of 34, coaches Harlow, Hal Kopp, and Bob Margarita, plus sundry H.A.A. and Dillon Field House personages entrained at 11 o'clock last night on two special cars attached to the Federal Express.
