Harriers Face M.I.T., Purple In First Test

Reinforced by the return to action of Captain Huna Rosenfeld, the Varsity cross country track team will begin running for keeps this afternoon at Franklin Park when it opens the season against Holy Cross and M.I.T., starting at 3:45 o'clock. The Crimson Freshman team, which performed so well in the University Handicap last week, will race Northeastern in a preclude to the main event.

Somewhat offsetting Rosenfeld's recovery from a leg injury is the news that Bill O'Connor and Jee Leeming will not run today. Leeming, last year's Yardling harrier captain, is nursing an injured knee, and O'Connor, who is rated among the first three Varsity men, has been out with a leg injury since the season started.

Engineers Favored

"We will have to run like in the Yale meet to beat M.I.T.," Coach Mikkola commented yesterday. He produced newsclippings from his folder to show why. Last fall, the Varsity ran second to M.I.T. in a five-way meet.

Of the half-dozen Engineers who beat Harvard's first man, Huna Rosenfeld in that meet, four will be out on the starting line this afternoon: Renze, Noss, Jablonski and Knopp. Holy Cross is considered to be considerably less potent, with O'Leary, second in that same five-team meet last year, the only threat. The Varsity will run 41/4 miles today, the Freshman 3 1/4.

Leading Varsity entries: Huna Rosenfeld (captain), John Cogan, Vince Moriarty, Bill Baker, Charley Worth.
